D&AD TYPE
We needed to add the title of the film to the cover so we worked on type looking at forming it out of tape and also writing it. Niall had the idea of using a cut out and allowing  light to form the structure of the type. This worked successfully producing a clear typeface.

Here are a few further idea for our cover design, one showing a little more context than the other. We were coming across problems with trying to fit the film tape portrait in to be honest. It was hard to not make it look tacky and untidy.

D&AD Development

This is the developed film tape portrait completed eventually. Niall and I used pins to keep the film tape in place. We used tape from the traditional VHS cassettes to form the face. We worked well during the progress of this portrait and completed it in separate sessions.

This is from our 2nd tutorial. After talking to our lectures and other students we have decided not to put the face in film, but to actually make the face out of film. not sure how yet. But should be fun, we are going to use this image as a basis because it is all one line and should flow like the film will.

We have decided to play around with the idea of having the portrate, within some film strips.

This is the new image that we have chosen, it show the boy more clearly and shows the super 8 film camera that the film is named after.

After our first crit with our lectures they have given us some more ideas to explore. For example to get a more reconisable image of the boy, and to try to encorperate more of the story of the film.

These are the first drawings of the boy from Super 8. The first is sketch done in biro and then scaned into the computer and played around with.
